[United States. Work Projects Administration] -- 1935-1943.

The WPA Collection contains about 1,400 prints and drawings created by artists hired by the federal government to work in the Philadelphia Graphic Arts Workshop during the Great Depression. Among the artists represented are Julius Block, Sam Brown, Claude Clark, Mildred Elfman, Michael Gallagher, Hubert Mesibov, Raymond Steth and Roswell Weidner. A variety of printing techniques are included, such as lithography, woodblock, carborundum prints, and etching. Drawing media include graphite, charcoal, conte crayon, and gouache.

The Works Progress Administration was involved in various projects including the compilation of sources on American territories.
